Facts I never knew I never knew

When you’re stuck in an RV for hours while travelling on the road, and your Ipod earphones struck a perfect timing to be busted during the trip, you desperately look for ways to amuse yourself – especially when all you are seeing are mainly pine trees and barren land. Luckily, your cousin, who is in charge of the wheel, offers you his Ipod touch. You immediately take it without any second thoughts at all. Here are the cool facts I learned (via Jonathan's Ipod) while I was on the road to and from Florida.

1. If a lobster loses an eye, it will grow one. (Could the lobster be the inspiration of the saying, 'An eye for an eye?')

2. A man once sued his doctor because he survived his cancer longer than the doctor predicted. (Yikes!)

3. One 75 watt bulb gives more light than three 25 watt bulbs. (In this case, 1+1 is not equal to 2, huh?)

4. Frozen lobsters come to life when thawed. (Look out for lobsters crawling out of the pot!)

5. The dot over the letter “I” is called a tittle. (Aahh.. okey..)

6. Right-handed people live, on the average, nine years longer than left-handed people. (Thank God, I'm right-handed. LOL!)

7. Some species of fish have voices. (It's not as quiet as you think down there in the ocean, baby.)

8. It is illegal to be a prostitute in Siena, Italy, if your name is Mary. (Don't even think about it, Mary.)

9. You share your birthday with at least nine other million people in the world. (The more, the many-er, right?)

10. President George W. Bush was once a cheerleader. (Rah, rah, rah!)

11. Chop suey was invented in New York. (Just like French fries did not originate in France.)

12. There is a town called Paradise and a town called Hell in Michigan. (Now, which address would you choose?)

13. Motorists who talk on their cellphones are more impaired than drunk drivers with alcohol blood levels of 0.08. (Now that's really scary. Don't drink and drive. This reminds me about Oprah Winfrey's campaign to make everybody's car a phone-free zone. Surely, that call can wait.)

14. Given the opportunity, deer will chew gum and marijuana. (Naughty deer!)

15. 40% of women have hurled footwear at a man. (That's what men get for being naughty.)

16. The greater the income, the greater probability that an American will cheat on his wife. (I think this fact transcends all races.)

17. The word gymnasium comes from the Greek word 'gymnazein' which means to exercise naked. (Could that be the reason why everybody is flocking at the gym these days?)

18. When Scott Paper Company first started manufacturing toilet paper, they did not put their name on the product because of embarassment. (Guess who's not embarassed now?)

19. No matter it's size or thickness, no piece of paper can be folded in half more than eight times. (I'll try this one of these days.)

20. Apples seeds are poison. (Was that the reason why Snow White died?)

21. A recent study at Harvard has shown that eating chocolates can actually help you live longer. (Hmmm....)

22. The word 'tips' is actually an acronym standing for To Insure Prompt Service. (Now, that is deeply appreciated.)

23. Nachos is the food most craved for by pregnant women. (Muchos nachos mi gusto!)

24. To have your picture taken by the very first camera, you would have to sit still for eight hours. (That's crazy! That's a whole day of work! I would have fallen asleep even before the eighth hour, if I were to have my picture taken during that, uhmm, era.)

25. Apples are more efficient than caffeine in keeping people awake in the mornings. (Really?)

26. Coffee drinkers, on the average, make love more than non-coffee drinkers. (Now, choose, apple or coffee?)

27. Ancient Egyptians slept on pillows made of stone. (Ouch!)

28. Murder is the only crime that does not increase during full moon. Theft, disorderly conduct, larceny, armed robbery, assault and battery, and rape all statistically increase dramatically during the full moon. (Bilog na naman ang buwan. Beware! Better stay at home during full moon.)

29. The penalty for masturbation in Indonesia is decapitation. (Tsk, tsk.)

30. There are more bacteria in your mouth than people in the world. (That’s quite a lot in there!)

  1. fun post, doc. :-) although, I had to comment on the left-handed people dying early and the fact about being a coffee drinker. lol.. The former is something to think about when you're considering a life partner (and life insurance) and the coffee...haha, it's a "Hmmmm....." moment.

  2. Hello S! Thank you :-)Yeah, you have a point, about a person's handedness being a factor in choosing a partner and thinking about life insurance, hahahhaha!! I never thought about that :-) And for the coffee, altogether, now, hmmmm... As for me, I'm trying to control my coffee and also soda intake these days. :-) Thanks for dropping by S! Let's continue writing :-) I'm one of your loyal readers :-)

  3. LOL! :) can i repost?! :) love these facts...

  4. hello wanderlust!

by all means, sure. Tweet this, share on facebook, anyway you want to repost. Thanks a lot and keep visiting :-)
